Configuration Sequence

To configure a hostname and to set an encrypted password, follow these steps:

Step 1

Enter enable mode.

Router> enable

The Password prompt appears. Enter your password.

Password: password

You have entered the enable mode when the prompt changes to

Enter global configuration mode.

Router# configure terminal

Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.

Change the name of the router to a meaningful name. Substitute your hostname for

Enter an enable secret password. This password provides access to the privileged EXEC mode. When

configuration mode. Enter your secret password.

Exit back to global configuration mode.

Verifying the Hostname and Password

To verify that you have correctly configured the hostname and password, follow these steps
