Diagnostics

Advanced diagnostic capabilities of the iQUBE

2

include power supply and excitation voltage monitoring; load cell

connection faults; and load cell overload, under-load, balanced load, load cell drift, peak-to-peak noise, and zero
reference errors. Diagnostic information can be included in the weight data itself or monitored on a communica-
tions channel separate from the weight data.

See Section 6.0 on page 47 for more information about iQUBE

2

diagnostics.

Transient Protection
For environments where extreme transients can be present (for example, truck scales), additional transient protec-
tion is available. These optional, replaceable boards are designed to protect the power supply lines by minimizing
the effects of nearby lightning strikes. Transient protection boards are recommended on each end of a power supply
run when an external DC supply is used, and on any power supply cables to secondary units where the secondary
enclosure runs are longer than 75 feet. The iQUBE

2

transient protection board option, PN 110949, includes a

mounting bracket.

System Configurations and Options

Table 1-1 lists the standard iQUBE

2

models, including the number of channels, enclosure material (fiber-reinforced

plastic [FRP], or stainless steel [SST]), enclosure size (in inches), and whether the model includes the internal 7.5
VDC power supply (PN 76556).

Small (8 x 10) enclosures can accommodate up to two iQUBE

2

boards (8 channels); large (10 x 12) enclosures can

accommodate up to three boards (12 channels). The maximum system configuration (16 channels) requires at least
two enclosures.

Communications Option Cards

The option cards listed in Table 1-2 are available to extend the communications capabilities of the iQUBE

2

. The

option cards are installed in connector J9 on the iQUBE

2

CPU board (see Figure 2-2 on page 8).

Power Supply Options

The iQUBE

2

can be powered by either the internal 7.5 VDC power supply (PN 76556) or by an external 12 VDC

power supply (PN 108434). The external DC power supply is mounted in its own 8 x 6 x 4-inch enclosure, and
includes a transient protection board for circuit protection.

See Section 8.3 on page 58 for information about calculating power requirements for particular system
configurations.
