2.0 Installation

This section describes procedures for connecting load cell, power, and serial communications cables to the iQUBE

2

junction box.

Assembly drawings and replacement parts lists for the iQUBE

2

are included for the service techni-

cian.

Use a wrist strap to ground yourself and protect components from electrostatic discharge (ESD) when
working inside the

iQUBE

2

enclosure.

2.1

Unpacking and Assembly

Immediately after unpacking, visually inspect the iQUBE

2

to ensure all components are included and undamaged.

Components included:

iQUBE

2

• Installation manual
• Parts kit (see Section 2.11 on page 18 for contents)

If any parts were damaged in shipment, notify Rice Lake Weighing Systems and the shipper immediately.

2.2

Mounting the Enclosure

The iQUBE

2

can be mounted either vertically or horizontally to a flat surface.

If the iQUBE

2

will be fixed to the building surface, it may employ a power supply cord for connection to the AC

Main Supply provided the conditions in this section are met.

UL Equipment Considerations

The iQUBE

2

should not be intended to become a permanent part of the building structure. This includes Equipment

For Building-In (per UL Document 1.2.3.5). For example, it may be intended to be connected to the building sur-
face (e.g., external surface of wallboard/studs), but it should not be designed to be permanently attached directly to
the building frame.

The iQUBE

2

should be removable from the building surface either without the use of tools (e.g., use of keyhole

slots), or with common tools in a straightforward manner.

Common tools are those normally available to users or service personnel, such as screwdrivers, nut drivers/setters,
etc. Such tools may have 'specialized' adapters or fittings available only to service personnel provided that their
intended use does not permanently damage or alter the equipment fastening means.

UL Power Considerations
The power supply cord must not be attached to the building surface, nor run through walls, ceilings, floors and sim-
ilar openings in the building structure.

Installation measures must be taken to prevent physical damage to the power supply cord, including proper routing
of the power supply cord and provision of a socket outlet near the iQUBE

2

, or positioning the iQUBE

2

near a

socket outlet to allow for quick disconnect in case of emergency.

2.3

Cable Connections

All models of the iQUBE

2

provide cord grips for cabling into the unit, plus a dedicated cord grip for a ground wire.

Up to twelve (12) load cells can be cabled into the iQUBE

2

(in large FRP model only); other cord grips allow

cabling for serial communications, digital I/O, and AC power. Install plugs in all unused cord grips to prevent
moisture from entering the enclosure.

2.3.1 Cable Grounding

Except for the power cord, all cables routed through the cord grips should be grounded against the indicator enclo-
sure. Do the following to ground shielded cables:

• Use the lockwashers, clamps, and keep nuts provided in the parts kit to install grounding clamps on the enclo-

sure studs adjacent to cord grips. Install grounding clamps only for cord grips that will be used; do not tighten
nuts.

• Route cables through cord grips and grounding clamps to determine cable lengths required to reach cable con-

nectors. Mark cables to remove insulation and shield as described below:
