2.6 TIPS FOR GETTING THE MOST FROM YOUR FX770

These hints and tips are included to show you how to get the full benefit of your FX770. The information here is outlined
for review purposes only, you’ll find the specifics in the sections listed with each feature.

2.6.1

Using External footswitches and Foot controllers

What are your feet doing while your hands are busy dancing across the fretboard of the guitar? If you’re like most
players, you wish you had an extra hand to “tweak” your gear while you’re playing, and all this time your feet are
still just “bangin’ out”. The FX770 wants to put them to work! Many of the most used and altered parameters of
the FX770 may be controlled by the optional external foot controllers and footswitches, and the following suggestions
are offered to help you get the most from your FX770 while your hands are still on the guitar! See Section 6 for details.

1, Use the Volume jack to connect an optional Yamaha FC7 foot controller or volume pedal* and you’ll have

control over the FX770 VOLUME in either of two locations; a) after the Amp simulator or b) after all effects

as a master output volume.

2. Use the WAH jack to connect an optional Yamaha FC7 foot controller or volume pedal* and you’ll have control

over the FX770 WAH functions in either of two locations: a) before the Preamp or b) after the Preamp.

3, Use the FSl jack to connect an optional Yamaha FC5 footswitch and you can control individual Effects on/off

or to enter and exit the Bypass and Tuner Modes.

4. Use the FS2 jack to connect an optional Yamaha FC5 footswitch and you can control Bank Select or step through

Preset and User Programs or use it as an Effect Trigger for setting the Tempo Delay time or Rotary/Tremolo
Tempos. See Section 5.4 for details.

* To use a volume pedal you need an optional insert I/O cable (See on page 6).

2.6.2 MIDI Control

The FX770 allows you to control up to two Program parameters in real time using MIDI Control Changes from a MIDI
foot controller. MIDI Bulk Dump allows you to copy data to another FX770 or save and load to a MIDI data filer.

See Section 6 for details.

2.6.3

Level Setting within the Effect Blocks

Special care should be used when setting the individual Effect Output Levels located within six of the Effect Groups.
The Compressor, Preamp, Pitch, Mod, Delay and Reverb Groups all feature parameter control over the signal flow
level. If the settings of these levels gets to high, it will result in “digital clipping” and add a harshness to the sound.
If any or all levels are set too low, the output of the FX770 is impaired. These levels should only be used to “level
out” the signal in an Effect Group that has raised or dropped the normal signal level of the FX770. At no time should
the sum of all the Output Levels be greater than +6dB, thus ensuring a clean and manageable signal path. Section
7.4 contains complete details on Output Level Management.
