7.3 PROGRAMMING TIPS

The following tips are for general information only, please feel free to discover your own ways to get the most from your
FX770.

Preamp Settings

• Regarding Gain: With any brand of Preamp, it has been found that when using extremely high-gain settings, lower

drive levels produce a more articulate attack and better defined tone. This is true with the FX770 as well, for the
best results from a high-gain Preamp setting, use discretion when setting the Drive parameters.

• Regarding EQ: The FX770 is equipped with a very powerful parametric-type EQ in the Preamp Block. This type

of EQ affords you the most control and flexibility for creating tone. With all of this power comes the warning:
Too much of a good thing can kill your tone. What this means is, be careful when using the Pre, Post and Main
tone controls in the Preamp Block. Learn what frequencies affect your guitar and find the “sweet spots” that make
your guitar sound natural.

Noise Gate Settings

Use discretion: Noise Gate values that are set too high will cut the sustain of your guitar. To set the Noise Gate,

turn the volume control on your guitar all the way off and listen to the background noise, then use the gate to reduce
that noise to a manageable level, most likely not all the way on! Remember, you ’ 11 never hear that little bit of noise
while the band is playing. To make the FX770 completely silent between songs or in quiet passages, use the
optional FCl Volume function as a Master Volume control on the main outputs - when it’s off, it’s silent!

External Controllers

• Don’t neglect the major benefits of the optional external controllers. These features and functions are an integral

design of the FX770, and they will enhance your enjoyment of this product greatly. Remote Volume, WAH, FS1
and FS2 programmable footswitches all provide that extra control needed while allowing you to keep your hands
on the guitar and making music.

Memory Backup

• Hours upon hours of expert programming on your part should not be lost due to lack of back-up. Using the MIDI

Data dump feature of the FX770 provides the insurance that your hard work will not be lost or damaged by friend
or foe. The MIDI Data dump is easy and quick to perform, please save and document your work.

Applications

• YourFX770may sound different in every application that you use it! The tones of the FX770 will vary according

to the type of amplifier/speaker combination that you are using, so please experiment to find the combination that
sounds best to you. The FX770 has the power to sound great in any application; from Combo amps to award
winning Studios, and you will need to know how to adjust the FX770 to each different type of listening

environment. The time that you spend perfecting your skills on the FX770 will result in amazing sounds!
