Installing a PCI card

To install a PCI card, complete the following steps:

1.

Read the safety information in “Important Safety Information” on page 1 and “Guidelines for trained
service technicians” on page 115.

2.

Turn off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables;
then, remove the server cover (see “Removing and installing the cover” on page 119).

3.

If you have installed an optional PCI-X riser-card assembly 2 , disconnect the riser-card power
cable 1 from the riser-card assembly.

Grasp the riser card at the front grip point and rear edges; then, lift to remove the riser-card
assembly. Place the riser-card assembly 7 on a flat, static-protective surface.

5.

Remove the expansion-slot cover on the slot that you intend to use.
Attention:

PCI expansion-slot covers must be installed on all vacant slots. This maintains the

electronic emissions characteristics of the server and ensures proper cooling of server components.
