Optional.
By default, an interface can establish
either the Level-1 or Level-2
adjacency.
Configuring the network type of an interface as P2P
Perform this task only for a broadcast network that has up to two attached routers.
Interfaces with different network types operate differently. For example, broadcast interfaces on a
network must elect the DIS and flood CSNP packets to synchronize the LSDBs, while P2P interfaces on a
network need not elect the DIS, and have a different LSDP synchronization mechanism.
If there are only two routers on a broadcast network, configure the network type of attached interfaces
as P2P to avoid DIS election and CSNP flooding, saving network bandwidth and speeding up network
convergence.
To configure the network type of an interface:

Optional.
By default, the network type of
an interface depends on the
physical media. The network
type of a VLAN interface is
broadcast.
Configuring IS-IS routing information control
Perform the tasks in this section to affect IS-IS route selection.
Configuration prerequisites
Before the configuration, complete the following tasks:
•
Configure network layer addresses for interfaces to ensure IP connectivity between neighboring
nodes.
•
Enable IS-IS.
