Thank you for purchasing the digital equalizer DEQ5. In order to take full advantage of all the DEQS’s

advanced features and capabilities we urge you to read this operating manual thoroughly before using the

DEQ5. Be sure to store the manual in a safe place afterwards.

Before you read the manual

Whenever DEQ5(E) is used in this manual it refers to DEQ5 or DEQ5E.

Outline and features of the DEQ5

♦ 2-channel stereo

The DEQ5 is a 2-channel digital stereo equalizer. It is equipped with a feature called parameter link which makes it
possible to control each parameter for the left and right channels individually or simultaneously.

♦ Two equalizer modes

Two equalizer modes are incorporated: a 30-band ±15 dB variable graphic equalizer mode (GEQ mode) and a 6-
band ±15 dB variable parametric equalizer mode (PEQ mode).

♦ High performance A/D and D/A conversion section which contributes to high class sound quality

A 19-bit conversion process is used in the A/D conversion section, while a 20-bit conversion process is used in the
D/A conversion section. This makes a dynamic range of llOdB or more possible (analog input when EMPHASIS is
on) and contributes to higher sound quality reproduction.

♦ 40-program user memory

Up to 40 programs of created equalizer data can be stored into the user memory no matter which equalizer mode is
used. The equalizer data can be recalled from memory by using the memory recall function.
Data stored in memory can be transmitted or received with other equipment through a built-in MIDI I/O terminal,

or the RS-485 interface connection, in the following manner:

• In combination with another DEQ5(E)

For communication purposes the DEQ5 features both the MIDI and the RS-485 interface. The DEQ5E on the
other hand features only the RS-485 interface.

• Computer with start up software for DEQ5(E) control

Communication is possible through the RS-485 interface terminal.

• MIDI sequencer with bulk recording function, or equivalent computer communication is possible through a

MIDI connection.

♦ Independent digital delay built in for each channel

Besides the equalizer function, a digital delay (with available time settings: from 0, 0.021 to 656 ms in 0.021 ms
steps when fs = 48 kHz), which can be used among others for phase compensation, is built in for each channel
independently.

♦ Easy to operate 3 rotary encoder systems

3 rotary encoder systems, which can be used for EQ parameter adjustment, and provide a data entry function during
menu settings, are installed.
This creates a far superior operating environment.

♦ Built in hum filter

A hum filter has been incorporated into the unit to filter out hum and its harmonics generated by the power supply
transformer. Thus eliminating any adverse hum effects.
