(2) Definition of address
Local address
When communicating by establishing a RS-485 network, a particular address for each DEQ5(E) (referred to as
local address hereafter) is set by multiple DEQ5(E)s on the network in order to recognize the unit to be controlled.
You can think of “address” referred to here as something like the address of each DEQ5(E) or as telephone
number.
The local address is a 1 byte address. The three most significant bits indicate group number and the six least
significant bits indicate the device number.
Local address = gggddddd

• Device number
• Group number
However, if all bits of either group or device number are all zero (group number ggg = 000, or device number
ddddd = 00000) it is defined as a broadcast address.
The local address can be set by the combination of group number 1~7 and device number 1~31 except the
broadcast address.
The local address can be set in UTILITY menu of the unit and with DEQ5E, it is set with the key switch on the
front panel.
Remote address
When communicating with only the special equipment on the network, the local address on the receiving side and
should be specified on the transmitting side.
Even though multiple DEQ5(E) are connected, a communication only among the specified equipment is possible.
