For those unfamiliar reading a viola’s
alto clef, note that the breaks be-
tween strings on the celli are at ex-
actly the same notes as on the violas,
but an octave lower. You might find
it easier to read the bass clef for the
celli and mentally transpose up an
octave for the violas.
