Sharpening contrast
The Sharpness mode allows you to vary the degree of sharpness or
softness on the copies. There are seven levels of sharpness, ranging
from high to low. The high and low extremes are described below.
High
Setting the sharpness level higher more clearly defines the edges of
original images. Faint images or fine text are darkened and made
more distinct. The higher the setting, the clearer the images.

Set sharpness high for better contrast
Low
Setting the sharpness level lower softens the contrast of original
images. By lowering the contrast, you reduce the granularity caused
by copying photographs or glossy pages. The lower the sharpness,
the less the granularity.
