Understanding How to Add a Level to a Container in a UNIX
Environment

The container add level feature is not available in a UNIX
environment.

Working with Mirror Sets

The CLI allows you to perform the following modifications on a
mirror set:

Split a mirror set

Unmirror a mirror set

Scrub a mirror set

See the Flexible Array Storage Tool User’s Guide for a complete
description of mirror sets and other container concepts.

The following sections describe how to perform these operations.

Splitting a Mirror Set

The CLI allows you to split a mirror set. Splitting a mirror set
divides a mirror set into two identical volume sets or a multilevel
container of mirror sets into two identical multi-level containers of
volume sets while preserving the data in each resulting container.
You usually split a mirror set to archive data.

Once a mirror set or multilevel container of mirror sets has been
split, the resulting volume sets or multi-level containers of volume
sets cannot be merged.

Before splitting a container, shut down system applications (such as
databases) to flush application data to the controller.

When you split a mirror set or a multilevel container of mirror sets,
the system creates a new (referred to as the split) container. The split
container contains half of the storage data from the original (referred
to as the master) container (mirror set). In addition, the split
container has an identical copy of the data from the master disk at
the time of the split operation.

On Windows NT and Windows 2000 (basic disk only), the split
container’s file system may be inconsistent and you should verify
and repair it as follows:
