Backing Up Files
Chapter Objectives
You can back up master files and production files to a specific directory or to a disk.
This chapter explains how to:
· specify master file backup paths
· back up production files
· back up files to a floppy
Backing Up Master Files
You can specify the directory paths for as many as three generations of master
backup files. If you do not specify backup directories, ControlGuardian will not
save a backup file of the previously defined master.
The default directory for the master library is C:\IPDS\CTLGUARD\x, where x is
one of the following, depending on your device:
· PLC5
· PLC3
· PLC2
· PV (PanelView)
· SLC (SLC 500)
Understanding Master File Backup Generations
The three generations of master file backups are as follows:
· First generation - the most recent backup of the master file
· Second generation - the second most recent backup of the master file
· Third generation - the third most recent backup of the master file
Each time you approve a file as the master file, the files previously stored in the
master and backup directories shift to the next generation. See Figure 6.1.
