Maintaining the FGS and FGS-STK Hardware

Hardware maintenance schedule

This chapter provides instructions for maintaining FGS and FGS-STK hardware.

DANGER

The procedures in this manual are for qualified service personnel.

The FGS and FGS-STK hardware components require minimal maintenance. Brocade recommends
cleaning the fiber optic connectors on fiber optic ports and the connected fiber cable each time you
disconnect the cable.

You can replace the following hardware components as needed:

2-port 10-Gigabit Ethernet module

Copper and fiber optic modules (SFPs (mini-GBICs) and XFP transceivers)

POE daughter card

Power supplies

Replacing a power supply

You can replace a power supply while the FGS or FGS-STK device is powered on and running. The
power supplies are located in slots at the rear of the FGS and FGS-STK device.

This section provides information about the following topics:

Installation precautions and warnings

Determining which power supply has failed, if necessary

Replacing a power supply

DANGER

Power supplies are hot swappable. However, Brocade recommends that you disconnect the
power supply from AC power before installing or removing the supply. The device can be running
while a power supply is being installed or removed, but the power supply itself should not be
connected to a power source. Otherwise, you could be injured or the power supply or other parts
of the device could be damaged.
