HDR 24/96

The System folder and the files MackieOS.EXE and PME.SYS, normally hidden on the HDR24/96
file management listings, will be visible on the FTP listing of the internal drive. These are part of the
operating system and should be left intact. Do not delete any of these files!

Clicking on a folder opens the folder and displays its contents. The FTP clients we’ve recommended
allow you to drag an entire folder from the server (the recorder) to the client (the computer) window,
transferring the entire contents of the folder in one operation. It takes a while to move a full 24-track
song over the network, so have something else to do while it’s cooking. Read the rest of this manual.
Have a cup of tea. Walk the dog.

A typical application for FTP transfers is to move a recorded track over to a workstation for some
high-powered processing than your HDR24/96 can’t do. Dig down through the HDRProjects folder
to find the folder named for your project, open it and find the Audio Files folder (there may be more
than one depending on the length of your project), and inside that folder, you’ll find the WAV files
for that project.

Drag the file from the
recorder window to the
computer window, open
it with your DAW
program, work your
magic, and drag it back
to the recorder.

When you drag the
processed track back to
the recorder, you’ll
overwrite the old track.
Just in case you don’t
like what you’ve done,
be sure that you save a
copy of the original file
just for safety. Save it in
a “backups” folder on
your computer, then
make a copy before you
slice and dice it in your
DAW.

Accessing Files on the HDR24/96 External Hard Drive
The external drive is drive E. In order to switch to that drive, you must send the “change
directory” command to the FTP server. Click the ChgDir button and type the new drive letter
into the dialog box that pops up. Some programs are fussier about the format than others. “e:\”
works for most of them, but if that doesn’t do it, try “/e:” or “e:/”.

You probably won’t see the directory window change to the other drive yet. You’ll need to click
the Refresh button in order to see the new directory listing when you switch drives.

Clever FTP Tricks

We built the FTP server into the recorder primarily as a backup tool and to allow you to move tracks
over to a workstation, but files are files, so here are a few things you can do that might make your
work easier.
