The Update button broadcasts all of the Linked Options to other HDR24/96s on the same
Network Channel. Use Update to synchronize the settings of the other HDR24/96s to the local
machine.

Pre-flight Check List

• Word Clock OUT on the master connected to Word Clock IN on the slave
• Word Clock Termination Switch IN on the slave
• Slave set for External Word Clock (BNC)
• SMPTE jacks connected with a ¼” TRS or TS patch cable
• Slave set for Time Code Chase
• Ethernet Jacks connected recorders using a crossover cable
• Different IP address set for each recorder
• Both recorders on the same MDS Network Channel
Take it for a spin. The transport control buttons on either recorder will control both recorders, but the
tracks on each recorder are armed independently.

DON’T FORGET ABOUT ARMED SLAVE TRACKS!!! If you’re doing overdubs that span both
recorders, the guy on the Slave recorder nails his part, but the guy on the Master wants to take another
shot at it, remember to disarm the track you just recorded on the Slave. Otherwise you’ll record over
the take you wanted to keep. You can always undo it, but that sort of thing freaks out the musicians.

Remember, too, that it’s up to you, when starting a new 48-track project, to create the new project on
both machines
. If the Prefs link option has been checked in the Network Setup, the two projects
will have similar default settings. When returning to a 48-track project, don’t forget to load the
project on both machines, too. While the basics like sample rate must be the same on both machines,
the project name doesn’t. You might want to add “Reel 2” to the project name on the second machine
just so you’ll know what’s where.

Track names are saved in the Template, and that’s not transmitted across the network. This means
that you’re quite likely to have two tracks of the same name in each project unless you rename them
on each recorder. If your second recorder is almost always used for tracks 25-48, you can save a
template on that machine with those track numbers.
