Warped ring can cause irregular pressure on ring
surface resulting in oscillating movements of oil
seal.

Different pressures on oil seal surfaces can cause
seepage, wear and leaks.

Oscillating oil seals allow dirt to enter.

Figure 3.21 shows an incorrect installation of an oil
seal in its mounting position. The upper bore is
stopped and the lower lodge is rotating.

Figure 3.22 shows the same lower bore after
rotation of 180 degrees. In this position, high
pressure occurs on points “A” and “Y”. This high
pressure variation may damage rings. Points “B” and
“X” will develop low pressure and possible leakage.
