feature.
2.9.2.2 How the SMTP Gateway Operates
Outbound: The mail server receives the email from the user and relays it to the gateway using SMTP.
The gateway sends it to the fax server to be faxed, and when it is complete, the gateway sends a
notification back to the sender using SMTP.
Inbound: When a fax is received and routed to email, the gateway emails it to the recipient using
SMTP.
2.9.2.3 Mail Server Requirements
The mail server must support SMTP. SSL is supported (using STARTTLS).
2.9.2.4 Choosing a Domain Name
The domain name is used to route mail to the fax server. It must be unique. It is usually preferable to
choose something that is recognizable as used for fax. A good choice would be your company’s normal
email domain with a “fax.” in front of it. For instance fax.company.com.
2.9.3 Installing the Email Gateway
Important: If you will be using SMTP for outbound faxing (inbound email to the fax server) be sure
to install the Microsoft SMTP Server before proceeding (see 2.9.2.1.1 Installing the Microsoft SMTP
Server above). The installer for the Email Gateway can be found on the Launchpad web site. Go
to Start
⇨ Programs ⇨ NET SatisFAXtion ⇨ Launchpad. This will open the Launchpad in the default
web browser. Navigate to Server Components
⇨ Email Gateways ⇨ SMTP Gateway or POP3
Gateway. There you will find a Download POP3 Gateway or Download SMTP Gateway link. Each
page will lead to the same download, but has different documentation depending on the desired
integration.
When running the installer, if you receive a Security Warning, click ‘Run’ at the Security Warning:
