E1 Line Remove
and Restore Menu
To configure the Line Restoral Options, type “L” from the QUAD
2164 Configuration Menu, Alarm Options display (Figure 3-4). The
QUAD 2164 Line Remove/Restore Configuration Menu appears.
Use this option to remove the port from service under conditions
of excessive CRC, SES, UAS, BPV, or BER errors on each network
port. The line is removed whenever a configured error threshold is
exceeded. (The line is also taken out of service immediately if LOS,
LOF, AIS, RAI, and BPV are detected.)
CRC thresholds are monitored every second. SES and UAS
thresholds are monitored over 15-minute intervals. BER thresholds
are monitored over predetermined periods for each BER selection.

-9 and 1.5 minutes for 10E -8 .)
The line remains out of service until the error condition clears.
(Some conditions, for example, SES and UAS can take up to fifteen
minutes to clear.) When the failed line is restored, the QUAD/IMUX
card starts a 15-minute timer. If this timer expires without further
line failures, any subsequent failure will be treated as a new failure.
However, if a failure occurs before the 15-minute timer expires, the
line remains out of service for the number of minutes specified in
the Clear Interval parameter (see below).
Line Restoral options are:
• Off means that a failed line will never be restored until a
different option is selected. In effect, it is identical to Manual.
• Manual means that a failed line will never be restored until a
different option is selected. In effect, it is identical to Off.
• Automatic means a failed line will be restored to service when
the failure clears and the line remains available for the length
of time (in seconds) in the Clear Interval value.
• TOD specifies a time of day that a line removed from service
will be restored.
U Configure Threshold Group B—If you plan to use the line restoral features of the
QUAD/IMUX cards, use this option, the Configure Threshold Group A option, and the
Configure Line Restore option to configure the line restoral thresholds and alarm
parameters.
X Exit this screen—Use this option to return to the Configuration menu.
