Setting up a configuration environment

Configuration environment

To configure your access controller, you need to set up a configuration environment by connecting a

terminal, a PC in this example, to the console port of your access controller (AC) with a console cable.

Connecting the console cable

Follow these steps to connect the console cable:

Step1

Connect the DB-9 female connector of the console cable to the serial port of the PC.

Step2

Connect the RJ-45 connector of the console cable to the console port of the access controller.

Setting terminal parameters

Before configuring your access controller through a console terminal, a PC running Microsoft Windows

XP for example, you need to set the parameters for the console terminal.
Follow these steps to set the parameters:

Step1

Start the PC, select Start > Programs > Accessories > Communications > HyperTerminal.

Step2

In the Connection Description dialog box, type a connection name and click OK, as shown in

Figure 30
