automatically set using BOOTP or DHCP protocols, in which case
the actual address assigned to the switch must be known.
The IP address may alternatively be set using the Command Line
Interface (CLI) over the console RJ-45 port as follows
:
1. Start a HyperTerminal (or other VT-100 emulation
program) session and use the configuration settings
listed on the previous page
2. At the command prompt enter for the
username/password: manager
3. Press B for [B]asic Switch Configuration, then press
I
for Set [I]P Configuration option. Enter an IP address
for the switch in the format xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and press
Enter.
4. Press M for Set Subnet [M]ask option, enter a subnet
mask in the format xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and press Enter.
5. A default gateway can be entered by pressing G for Set
Default [G]ateway option, enter a gateway in the
format xxx.xxx.xxx and press Enter.
6. After entering an IP address, Subnet Mask and
Default Gateway, press Q twice for [Q]uit to Previous
Menu. Then at the main menu press F for Save
Configuration to [F]lash in order to save all
configuration changes.
SNMP
The Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is an OSI layer
7 (the application layer) protocol for remotely monitoring and
configuring network devices. SNMP enables network management
stations to read and modify the settings of gateways, routers,
switches, and other network devices. SNMP can be used to perform
many of the same functions as a console connected directly to the
