NMS Module

When field-installed, the front cover of the 3240S will have a blank cover panel where the NMS is to be installed. Remove the
screws from the blank cover panel and set it and the screws aside. Insert the management module into the opening using the
card guides and assure it is secured into the main board connector, then tighten the captive screws.

The module has two ports available:

9-Pin RS-232 Serial Port
This port connects directly to devices, such as a modem or PC (the DTE/DCE switch should be set to DTE for the
PC and DCE for the modem). The serial port can also be configured for SLIP and the user interface remains available
over TELNET.

10Base-T Port
This port is a standard 10 Mbps Ethernet Port that can be used for SNMP management and TELNET.

1.3.10 I/O Card Insertion/Removal

Normally installed at the factory, the I/O modules are a field-installable option.
When installing each I/O card into the 3240S chassis (see Figure 1-5), the centrally located edge connectors on the card
should mate securely with the corresponding chassis connectors (see Figure 1-6).

I/O cards can be inserted/removed under power.

To properly insert an I/O card, slide each card on its guides until the internal connector is contacted. If the card does not start
engaging with medium pressure applied, halt application and change the alignment slightly, Repeat this procedure until the
initial engagement is successful. Then press firmly in the center until the card is fully seated. After making sure that the
thumbscrews at each end of the I/O card line up with the corresponding holes in the chassis, tighten the screws to lock the
card in place.

To remove I/O cards, loosen the thumbscrews at each end of the card. Once they are disengaged, grasp the thumbscrews and
firmly pull the I/O card from the chassis.
