3240S Fiber Optic Multiplexer

2.5 Operation Ready - System Checks

At this point, power should be connected and ready to apply, the fiber optic links should be properly connected, I/O
module cards should be installed with the jumpers and switches properly set, and you are now ready to begin operation
of your 3240S Fiber Optic Multiplexer. Initiate the power source, (i.e., the AC Power Switch located on the Rear Panel, or
the DC Power source plugged into the Rear Panel of your multiplexer units).

2.5.1 Initial Setup Switches and Indicators

Once power has been introduced, verify the following conditions:

2.5.1.1 Front Panel System Indicators

Power Supply A and B (green) with redundant supplies. B only with a single power supply installed; will illuminate
when power is applied and no failure exists.

System Loop is only illuminated if the LOOP MODE Switch is in a loopback position.

LOS is illuminated when the fiber link is not connected, or if the link is bad.

Slave will only be illuminated if the MAST/SLV Switch is in the SLV position which is not the factory default setting.

2.5.1.2 Front Panel Redundant Optics Indicators

Redundant Optics Backup is illuminated if the fiber link is not connected, or if the link is bad.

ALM LED is illuminated when the fiber link is not connected, or if the link is bad.

Redundant Optics Sec (flashing red). Auto is extinguished and Sec is illuminated solid if the Redundant Optics Switch
is in the SEC position.

To reset the ALM or SEC Indicator, switch the Redundant Optics Switch to PRI or SEC and back to the
AUTO position. This resets an alarm condition, such as the loss of optics on the primary link, or an
automatic switch over to the secondary link.

Redundant Optics Auto (green) with redundant optics and the Redundant Optics switch in the Auto position
which is the factory default. This Indicator is not illuminated when the Redundant Optics Switch is not in the AUTO
position nor is it illuminated if redundant optics are not installed.

2.5.1.3 Front Panel SNMP Management Module (if installed)

Act, or Activity LED should remain illuminated during decompression and transfer of the management software from
FLASH to RAM memory. Upon successful completion, the ACT LED will flash constantly.

Flt, or Fault LED should not be illuminated, indicating successful power-up diagnostics.

2.5.1.4 Rear Panel Indicators

Redundant Optics AUTO, SEC, and ALM are identical to the Front Panel LEDs and reflect the same status. The Backup
LED is not duplicated on the Rear Panel.

LOS reflects the same status as SYNC LOSS on the Front Panel.

PWR reflects the same status as the Front Panel Power LEDs, and will be illuminated if either of the power supplies reflect
a good status.
