2.3.4.1 Physical/Logical Time Slots

The 3240S divides the total available front-end bandwidth into four logical time slot. Depending upon your application, these
time slots are allocated by the MDSO Module card into one or two time slots, dependant upon the speed of the card. When
operating at the high speed setting, two time slots are utilized, and operating at the low speed setting, only one time slot is
utilized, thus two MDSO cards may share the same two time slots. Refer to Table 2-B for setting the Board Address, or Time
Slot addresses.

MDSO Unmanaged I/O Card

2.3.4 Model MDSO 4-Port Unmanaged Interface Module

The MDSO interface card as referenced in Figure 2-9, is unmanaged and operates the same as it would in the standard 3240
Fiber Optic Multiplexer. The electrical interface employs MR34 connectors which support four channels with V.35 or 422
electrical signals. Each channel can operate in the low speed mode up to a speed of 672Kbps (12x56Kbps) or 768Kbps
(12x64Kbps). The speed of each channel can be set in increments of 56Kbps or 64Kbps, up to the maximum speed allowed for
that mode.

The features of this card include:

Local and remote loopback (this option is not selectable via NMS as this card is non-managed).

Each channel can be set to internal, external or slave clocking.

Local and remote loopback is provided on each channel interface and one end-to-end control line per channel is provided in
both directions. These full duplex control leads can be used for applications that require handshaking.
