4.3 Network Management Module

The Network Management Module for the 3240S is a field-installable
module used for network management. These units will allow Ethernet
and/or serial port access and include support for MIB II, SLIP, TELNET
and Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP). Figure 4-1 shows the loca-
tions of connectors and LEDs on the module.

The Network Management Module
is not hot-swappable.

4.3.1 NMS Port and DTE/DCE Switch

The NMS Port is a serial EIA-232 port. The default parameters for this port are 9600 baud, No Parity, 8 bits, and one stop bit
(N, 8,1). The terminal emulation is VT100. Refer to Appendix A for the connector pinouts of this port.

DTE/DCE Switch - When set to the DCE position, the port is configured as Data Terminal Equipment (DTE). When set
to the DCE position, the port may be connected to a modem (DCE device) for remote applications. If the DTE/DCE
switch is set to the DTE position, the port is configured as Data Communication Equipment (DCE). When set to the DTE
position, the port may be connected to a DTE device, such as a local ASCII terminal or a PC running a terminal emulation
program.

4.3.2 10BASE-T Network Management Port

The 10BASE-T Port is a standard 10 MHz Ethernet Port. The user can connect directly to any 10BASE-T network repeater
with a regular 10BASE-T cable or directly to a PC Ethernet NIC card with a crossed over 10BASE-T cable. Keep in mind
that the management module must be configured via the NMS serial port before communication can take place over the
10BASE-T port. The SNMP Agent Configuration items must be configured for the specific Agent and Host Network
entries (IP addresses, community access names, trap community name, SLIP address, etc.). MIB items can then be read or
written to through the SNMP management station. Refer to Appendix A for the connector pinouts of this port.

There is no Link Integrity indicator on the 3240S management module. Assuming you have connected
the Ethernet correctly, the LINK status indicator on the repeater or the PC NIC card should be
illuminated. The ACT LED will remain steady during boot-up and will be blinking during normal
operation.
