2.3.3 Model E1X 3-Port Interface Module

Two manageable E1 interface designs are available for the 3240S; a standard E1 interface, as referenced in Figure 2-7, and the
E1/V.35. The standard interface employs either 75ohm Unbalanced BNC connectors; or 120 ohm Balanced connectors which
are either: DA-15, DB-25 or RJ-48C. The E1/V.35 interface employs the DB-25 female connector, and the standard E1 I/O Card
will utilize any of the other connectors . All of these interface modules support three E1 channels, or ports. Each E1 interface,
like the T1, requires two of the four time slots available on the 3240S. Each distinct 3240S system will support up to six E1
channels. Time slot allocation is determined by jumper W3. Reference Figure 2-8 for jumper locations.

2.3.3.1 Standard Manageable E1 I/O Cards

Standard E1 I/O Cards can be ordered with four different connector types:

DA-15, 120 Ohm - The three female DA-15 ports employed on the E1 interface are configured as DCE, meaning Tx, or SD,
is an input on pins 1 and 9; and Rx, or RD, is an output on pins 3 and 11. The DA-15 is terminated in a 120 ohm impedance
and interfaces with twisted pair DA-15 type cable. The impedance is factory set and cannot be configured by the user.

RJ-48C, 120 Ohm - The three female RJ-45 ports are configured as DCE, meaning Tx, or SD, is an input on pins 4 and 5;
and Rx, or RD, is an output on pins 1 and 2. The RJ-48C is terminated in a 120 ohm impedance and interfaces with an
RJ-48C plug on twisted wire. The impedance is factory set and cannot be configured by the user.

BNC, 75 Ohm

-

Standard female BNC connector ports are configured as DCE, meaning Tx, or SD, is an input to the port;

and Rx, or RD, is an output from the port. The BNC is terminated at 75 ohms and interfaces with standard a 75 ohm coaxial
cable. The impedance is factory set and cannot be configured by the user.

DB-25, 120 Ohm - The DB-25 connectors employed on the V.35 interface are configured as DCE, meaning Tx, or SD, is an
input on pins 2 and 14; and Rx, or RD, is an output on pins 3 and 16. The DB-25 is terminated in a 120 ohm impedance and
interfaces with a twisted pair DB-25 type cable. The impedance is factory set and cannot be configured by the user.

2.3.3.2 E1 V.35 Manageable I/O Card

The E1 V.35 interface is basically a modification of the existing 3240S E1 interface. It supports three channels with V35 or 422
electrical signals at E1 speed, 2.048Mbs, in internal, external or slave modes. The clock modes for each channel can be
selected by using DIP switches accessible via the rear panel of the interface card. Factory settings are slave, or SLV; and
external, or EXT, which means SCTE from a remote source, will clock the Tx data.

As with the other standard 3240S I/O Cards, the E1 V.35 is a manageable interface. The test modes, i.e. local and remote
loopback, are fully operable and manageable, however the Clock Mode (CLK MODE), cannot be controlled by the NMS. The
NMS does monitor RTS and DTR, thus providing the following pass through controls:

DTR ---> CTS

RTS ---> DCD
