2.3.2 Model T1X 4-Port Interface Module

The T1 interface, as referenced in Figure 2-5, employs either a female DA-15 connector or an RJ-48C type connector. Each T1
interface module supports four T1 channels. This interface requires two of the four time slots available for the 3240S, (i.e. 1
and 3, or 2 and 4) where only one card may occupy a particular time slot in a chassis. Each distinct 3240S system will support
up to eight T1 channels which can be set individually for either B8ZS or AMI line coding.

Standard T1 I/O Cards can be ordered with two different connector types:

DA-15 - The four female DA-15 connectors utilized for the T1 I/O ports are configured as DCE; meaning Tx (or SD)
is the input into the port on pins 1 and 9, and Rx (or RD) is the output on pins 3 and 11. (Refer to Appendix A for T1
connector pin assignments).

RJ-48C - The four RJ-48C connectors utilized for the T1 ports are configured as DCE; meaning Tx (or SD) is the input
into the port on pins 4 and 5, and Rx (or RD) is the output on pins 1 and 2. (Refer to Appendix A for the RJ-48C
connector pin assignments).

2.3.2.1 Internal Switches and Jumpers

Each I/O card must have the proper time slot allocation, line coding and line build out set. Time slot allocation is determined
via W32. Line coding and line build out is determined via SW1 and SW3 for each of the four ports. User should determine the
application and management requirements prior to configuring the latter settings. Reference Figure 2-6 for switch and jumper
locations.

2.3.2.2 Time Slot Allocation/Board Address

W32 sets the time slot allocation and this function cannot be set via the NMS. To select ports 1 and 3, install the jumper. Time
slot allocation for ports 2 and 4 is set by leaving the jumper off. Both cards at each end of the link must be set with identical
board addresses and no other card within the chassis can be set identically.
