Chapter 2 - 3240S Multiplexer Setup

The setup of your 3240S Fiber Optic Multiplexer will depend upon the application for which it is being utilized. In addition to
application considerations, there are settings that will affect the setup regardless of the application requirements such as:

Power Supply set up. Reference Chapter 2, Section 2.1.

Fiber optics link set up. Reference Chapter 2, Section 2.2.

Interface Module cards - must be configured upon initial setup of your multiplexer. The user will find both internal and
external switches associated with the 3240S Interface (I/O) Module cards that are set to a factory default when shipped.
These switch settings, such as the line coding, line build out, time slot allocation, alarm contact relay closure, and optical
power settings, are not specifically set for your system requirements. Reference Chapter 2, Section 2.3 for a complete
description of your respective I/O Module jumper and switch setup. I/O switch and jumper settings are also covered
briefly in Chapter 3 and Chapter 4.

Redundant Optics - Reference Chapter 2, Section 2.4.

Alarm Relay Jack (also called Fault Relay Jack in Redundant Optic Models) and relay contacts selection. Reference
Chapter 2, Section 2.4.

Operation Ready - System power-up and checks. Reference Chapter 2, Section 2.5.

2.1 Power Supply Setup

AC power for the 3240S is autoranging from 90 to 264VAC. A three prong/IEC 320
attachment, AC power cord is provided with the unit. Plug the cord into the
socket located next to the rear mounted power switch and then plug into a three
pronged outlet. When utilizing a 220VAC source, a power cord may be required
with a termination other than the standard three prong cord provided.

Power set up for DC will depend upon the DC supply. The -48 volt DC version of
the 3240S is intended for use with an external -48VDC power supply. Connect the
source DC via the terminal block connector which is provided in lieu of an AC
connector. Orientation of the two DC leads is clearly marked as to which screw lug
is to be attached to the positive (+) and negative
(-) 48 volts DC.

Check signal ground (Gnd) of the source supply and orientate it to the Multiplexer Gnd, or chassis
ground. Verify with a Digital Multimeter that (+) and (-) are not shorted prior to applying power.

Redundant supplies, as referenced in Figure 2-1, may also be provided for your 3240S. When utilizing this application,
connect both supplies as described above. A variety of redundant supply options are available: AC/AC, DC/DC, or AC/DC.
