Chapter 6. ETHERNET

MANAGEMENT

6.1

Overview

The sections that follow describe the functionality of the MBT-5003 Ethernet Interface. Refer to the
Remote Commands Specifications tables found in Appendix A. REMOTE CONTROL for
detailed descriptions of the configuration parameters featured on the individual Web pages depicted
in this section.

6.2

Ethernet Management Interface Protocols

The MBT-5003 100BaseT/10BaseTx Ethernet Management Interface supports three (3) different
management protocols:

• SNMP with public and private MIB
• Telnet interface for remote product M&C
• Web Server (HTTP) Interface for complete product management

IMPORTANT

For SNMP, Telnet, or Web Server operation, the MBT-5003 must be configured
with the Ethernet control option. Via the front panel, select
CONFIG: Remote
Control

Æ Ethernet. See Chapter 5. FRONT PANEL OPERATION for further

information.

6.3

SNMP Interface

The Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is an application-layer protocol designed to
facilitate the exchange of management information between network devices. The MBT-5003
SNMP agent supports both SNMPv1 and SNMPv2c.

IMPORTANT

For proper SNMP operation, the MBT-5003 MIB files must be used with the
associated version of the MBT-5003 M&C. Refer to the MBT-5003 FW Release
Notes for information on the required FW/SW compatibility.
