Symptom

Corrective Action

Probable Cause

Quill handle is difficult to
move.

Quill lock is engaged.

Inadequate lubrication

Release the quill lock.

Lubricate the ballscrew with
a high-quality Lithium
grease.

Z-axis drive system will not
engage.

The “Begin” field for the Z-
axis is blank.

The Z-axis is disengaged.

The Z-axis is disabled.

The quill has reached a limit
switch.

The drive belt is loose

Check that the program step
is correct and that there is
information in the “Begin”
field for the Z-axis.

RE-define FTO position.

Tighten the quick release
knob for the Z-axis drive
system (refer to Z-axis
Conventions
).

Enable the Z-axis (refer to
Setup).

Move the quill toward the
center of travel

Adjust the drive belt tension.

Unusual chatter from the
quill

The quill is over extended.

Shorten the quill distance
and raise the knee.

Should the above recommen-
dations not correct the prob-
lem you are experiencing,
contact your ACU-RITE dis-
tributor for repair and/or
replacement procedures.
