Microdust pro Remote Control Command Set

A.1

Introduction

The Casella Microdust pro Real Time Dust Monitor (RDM) can be remotely

controlled from a PC suitably equipped with a simple terminal emulation

program such as that found in many operating system software packages.
Connection between the PC and the RDM is achieved using the cable that

was originally supplied with each RDM when first delivered. Connect the

6-way mini DIN plug to the socket on the bottom of the RDM and the 9-way

plug into a convenient RS232 communication port on the rear of the PC. If a

special cable needs to be manufactured please consult Chapter 1 for details

of the pin assignments given in Figure 5 and Table 1.
Communication takes place with a variable Baud rate from 600 to 38400 bps,

8 data bits, 1 stop bit no parity over RS232 levels.
A number of single letter commands are given below to action key functions

while mimicking the action of the keypad buttons will allow the whole of the

instrument’s menu structure to be accessed as if the user was pressing the

keypad directly.
The following commands are described:

Command ‘B’:

Upload bitmap screen to instrument

Command ‘C’:

Clear bitmap

Command ‘I’:

Interrogate target

Command ‘R’:

Set instrument id and time date

Command ‘T’:

Download records stored

Command ‘X’:

Start real time output

Command ‘Z’:

Stop real time output

Command ‘X’: - Start real time output

E.g. ‘X’
The instrument will transmit the average dust concentration displayed on the

instrument, and will be updated very second.
i.e.

“2.87[CR][LF]”
