Output Tab–RIST

The figure below shows the output tab when RIST is selected. In this mode, up to four copies of
each stream can be sent by the encoder. The basic parameters are:

Drop Null Packets:

check this box to remove the NULL packets from the output. Note

that most professional-grade IRDs require NULL packets. The professional decoders
from Cobalt Digital can operate without NULL packets.

Protocol:

select the output protocol variation. The options are:

o

UDP:

this provides transport stream packets directly over UDP, with no packet loss

recovery. This option is offered to allow UDP operation over RIST Main Profile
tunnels, for networks where packet recovery is not necessary.

o

RTP:

this provides transport stream packets over RTP, with no packet loss recovery.

This option is offered to allow RTP operation over RIST Main Profile tunnels, for
networks where packet recovery is not necessary. RTP requires that the UDP port
used be an even number.

o

RIST:

this provides packet loss recovery using the Reliable Internet Stream

Transport (RIST), as per VSF TR-06-1. This selection requires the optional

+RIST/ARQ-ENC

license to be installed in the encoder. Since RIST is based on

RTP, the UDP port used will have to be an even number. Note that, if RIST is
configure to send the RTP stream to port P, it will also send RTCP packets to port
P+1. When RIST is selected, the following options become available:
