Symptom Possible Causes Solutions
Error occurs during printing. Labels/ribbon has run out.
Incorrect COM port selected.
Incorrect printer is selected. Replace labels/ribbon in the
printer and the printer will
restart. For instructions, refer
to the Eltron printer User’s
Manual.
Select the correct COM port
from the Slide Label Design
screen, see Initializing the
Autostainer Plus, section 7.

screen, see Initializing the
Autostainer Plus, section 7.
The text or the bar code of the
label does not begin along the
left edge of the label and the
text or the bar code is getting
cut off. The Seymour printer may need
to be reset.
To reset the Seymour Label
Printer, turn off the printer.
Hold down the green label feed
button on the top of the printer.
Turn on the printer while
holding down the green button
and continue holding the button
for 3 seconds. The labels
advance forward and printer will
print. Release the feed button.
Press and release the feed
button one more time to
advance one label. Perform a
TEST PRINT. The print will be
lined up along the left slide of
the label.
Instrument scans bar codes
but does not recognize. Bar code has specks or voids.
Bar code has lines or streaks.
The bar code labels are not
placed correctly on the slides.
Salt on the bar code reader. Make sure the labels are clean.
Clean the printhead of the
Seymour printer.
Check the ribbon for wrinkles.
Place the label ½ cm from
either side of the slide; ½ cm
from the top of the label. Do
not place the label diagonally
on the slide.
Clean the bar code reader.
Instrument does not scan bar
codes. Bar code scanner not
configured correctly. Reconfigure bar code scanner,
see Setting up the Port Setting
for the Bar Code Reader in the
Bar Coding section.
Slide number is not listed on
label. Label is not centered correctly
on label. Reprint label if necessary and
place the label fi cm from the
top and 1/8 cm from the side of
the slide.
Computer functions lock-up
during a run, but the
Autostainer Plus is still
performing the run. Windows error.
Allow the Autostainer Plus to
finish the run. Re-boot System
before the next run.
