missed approach procedure. In this case the waypoint N35HP is dis-
played. This is a point located on the outbound leg of the holding
pattern. We will not use it in this example. Pull the right inner knob out
and turn it to display MSAh, the missed approach holding point.
Press

F to activate MSA as the hold point.

11. Press

H to put the unit in OBS mode and select 360° on the exter-

nal Nav indicator.

NOTE: On some approaches, an additional waypoint is added to the
missed approach sequence by the provider of the navigation data for the
database. At the time this pilot’s guide is written, this waypoint is not
depicted on either Jeppesen or NOS charts. It may be used as an aid in
establishing the holding pattern, especially where the MAP and MAHP are
the same waypoint. To use N35HP in this example put the unit in the OBS
mode and select 180° on the external Nav indicator. After passing N35HP
activate MSAh and select 360° on the external Nav indicator.

6.2.11. APPROACH EXAMPLE 5: DME ARC

DME arc procedures with the KLN 94 are completely different from using
traditional VOR and DME equipment. Don’t worry though because DME
arc procedures using the KLN 94 are also much easier than using tradi-
tional equipment. This is because the KLN 94 provides left/right guidance
around the arc. No more having to watch distance in one place and radial
in another!

In many cases you do not actually fly to the beginning of an arc, especially
in a radar environment. Instead, the flight path of the aircraft generally
intersects the arc at some point. Once the aircraft is near the arc, it is then
possible to turn so that the arc distance is maintained until time to turn to
the inbound fix.

The following example will show how
DME arc procedures are flown using
the KLN 94. This example approach
will be to use the VOR/DME 22
approach at Rocky Mount, NC
(KRWI). The approach plate for this
approach is in figure 6-45. Assume
that the aircraft is approaching from
the southeast of TYI VOR and it includes TYI in FPL 0 (figure 6-46).
