Summary

Name sets allow you to define alternate names for I/O devices. You can create multiple name
sets. The reasons for creating name sets are many and varied. The actual name sets used are
entirely at the discretion of configurers at each installation.

Although you can create multiple name sets, any individual control panel can be configured to
use exactly one. Panel operators may then toggle between the name set assigned to the panel
and the “system names.”

A control panel need not have an assigned name set. That panel will use only system names.

Different panels can use different name sets.

System names are the names assigned to devices at the time the devices are defined. A name
set, and the alternate names it contains, are defined under the ‘System Management’ pane —
after I/O devices have been defined.

Configuration of Name Sets

Configuration of name sets occurs through the ‘System Management’ pane.

To open the name set dialog window, right click the name of a control system in the ‘System
Management’ pane. In the context menu that appears, choose ‘Edit Name Set’. The name set
dialog appears.

Note: the window for the name set dialog might immediately “jump” behind other open
windows. You can bring it to the foreground again by clicking the ‘Name Sets for ...’ entry in
your Windows task bar.
