Upgrade Problems/Solutions

Problem

Possible Cause

Solution

After upgrading the
computer’s RAM, the
system does not boot
up properly

A RAM module is not
seated properly.

Following the instructions in the section
entitled Upgrading Your Memory, try re-
moving and reseating the RAM module.

A RAM module is the
wrong specification.

If reseating the module from the above
step does not solve the problem, the
RAM module could be the wrong type.
Contact your dealer for assistance.

A RAM module is
defective.

If reseating the module from the above
step does not solve the problem, the
RAM module could be defective. Con-
tact your dealer for assistance.

After upgrading the
computer’s RAM the
system begins to
crash, seemingly at
random intervals.

A RAM module is not
seated properly.

Following the instructions in the section
entitled Upgrading Your Memory, try re-
moving and reseating the RAM module.

A RAM module is the
wrong specification.

The RAM module could be the wrong
type. Contact your dealer for assistance.

A RAM module is
defective.

The RAM module could be defective.
Contact your dealer for assistance.

After replacing the
HDD the system can-
not boot into your
Operating System.

The drive is not
formatted.

You will need a bootable Windows
installation DVD or USB thumb drive.
Restart the system with the USB thumb
drive or an external CD/DVD drive at-
tached and insert the Windows Installa-
tion Disc. If you do not have a bootable
Windows install disc, go to www.
microsoft.com on another computer to
download one.

The drive is not con-
nected properly.

Following the instructions in the section
entitled Upgrading the Hard Disk Drive
(HDD), try reseating the HDD in the bay.

After replacing a
HDD with a SSD the
system will not rec-
ognize the drive.

The SATA mode is not
set to AHCI.

Go into the BIOS and change the SATA
mode in the advanced menu from IDE
to AHCI. See Appendix A: BIOS Setup.

Firewire device is not
recognized when
plugged into VESA
Mounting Plate or
Docking Cradle.

Sahara Slate PC i535/
i575 do not have
Firewire ports and
the Firewire port on
VESA/Dock is not
supported.

Second generation Sahara Slate PC i500
Tablet PCs have no support for Firewire.
Use a USB connector if it available on
your device instead.
