Brick Start:

This command is used to select where in the memory of the Smart Bricks the show will start. Valid en-

tries are made in up to seven decimal numbers, ranging from 0 to 1,048,575. If you are using a 16K
Smart Brick, the upper limit should be below 16,383. If using a 64K Smart Brick, the limit should be kept
below 65,535 frames. The Rack Smart Brick Brain will automatically translate this number in to a ÔtimeÕ
value and display it next to the number you have entered. The BRICK START is also subtracted from the
BRICK END time so that the show length is also displayed.

Brick End:

This command is used to select where in the memory of the Smart Brick the show will end if using

SMPTE, Internal or external clocking. Valid entries are made in up to seven decimal numbers, ranging
from 0 to 1,048,575. If using a 64K Smart Brick, the limit should be kept below 65,535 frames. The Rack
Smart Brick Brain will automatically translate this number in to a ÔtimeÕ value and display it next to the
number you have entered. The BRICK START is also subtracted from the BRICK END time so that the
show length is also displayed.

Next Show:

This command is used to select which show will be played next if there were no other higher priority

show requests made. Valid entries are from 0 to 255 (00 to FFh). One through 255 select specific shows
and any show number can be used. If the current show requests itself, then it will loop until a different
show is requested.

Entering a NEXT SHOW value of 00 is how you tell the Brick Brain that you want it to drop back into

the sequence of shows it had been playing before the last specific show request had been received. As
an example:

Shows 1 through 6 each request the next consecutive show in line
Show 7 requests show number 1 at itÕs end
Show 10 through 16 each request the next consecutive show in line
Show 17 has a Ф00Х entered for the next show at itÕs end
Once started, the shows 1 through 7 will loop for ever
A request comes in for show 10 while playing show 3
Shows 10 through 17 are played
At the end of show 17, the next show played will be show number 4

An exception to the rule above is made for shows 240 through 255 (0F0h through 0FFh). These

shows are to be used for ÔbackgroundÕ shows. It is show #255 that is called up when both the IMMEDIATE
CHAIN FLAG
and DELAY FLAGS are set for a single show. When any of these shows are playing, and an-
other show is requested, show numbers from 240 through 255 wonÕt be saved as the ÔreturnÕ shows.

Immediate:

This toggles the ÔIMMEDIATE CHAIN FLAGÕ for this show. When set, the next show will be played imme-

diately after this show ends as long as the system is currently looping shows. The next show can be a
specifically requested Ônext showÕ, or a return from a specifically requested show if Ф00Х is entered as the
Ônext showÕ. If the ALLOW CHAINS flag is set, then the next show will be played immediately, even if the
system is not currently looping shows.

IMMEDIATE CHAINS can be used to build up longer shows from a number of shorter segments. You

might want to do this if you are fixing a error in the show burnt onto a LaserDisk (skipping over a slow part
of the show, for example), or to build up a show which runs continuously between the main shows, but
