Step 4. Run the press at the minimum speed and if necessary adjust the Low Spm Input Offset parameter

until the Drive Speed reads correctly.

Section 7.4 Communication Option

The operator terminal allows an for communication with external equipment. The field connections to this
board are made on the rear of the operator terminal as shown in Figure 7.15.

Figure 7.15 Communication Connections

The parallel port allows external equipment such as programmable controllers interfaced to the press to
display diagnostic messages on the press control menu of the operator terminal. A binary value (00-127)
presented to this port informs the operator terminal which message to display. Terminal 2 is the Least
Significant Bit and terminal 8 is the Most Significant Bit. The inputs are optically isolated and require a
voltage level from 12-24 volt dc to provide a logic level 1. A common ground for all inputs is provided
on terminal 1. Each message is 40 characters and may be programmed directly into the operator terminal
or programmed offline and downloaded from a laptop.

Serial ports 2, 3, and 4 are intended to interface to electronic roll feeds, auxiliary equipment such as
programmable logic controllers, or a laptop computer. These interfaces and their electrical connections
are described in other manuals, such as feed interface and networking manuals.

Section 7.5 System Startup

This section is intended to aid in the new installation of a system 5000 press control that has been wired
in accordance with AC and DC wiring diagrams supplied by Link Systems.
