Edge calibrations for routine measurements
Teaching the edge detector calibrates it to correctly recognize dark to light transitions (edges) on the com-
parator screen. Perform a teach calibration after each startup or whenever the part or magnification level
changes. Any change in the light conditions on the comparator should be followed by a teach calibration.
To perform the teach calibration:
1 Touch the Teach Edge button to toggle between the Auto and Double teach modes:
• Auto: The system will determine if one or two passes are required to calibrate the edge detector
• Double: Passing over a less distinct edge twice is recommended to calibrate the edge detector
2 Touch the Teach button. You will be prompted to place the edge
detector probe over dark and light areas of the comparator screen and
to press the Enter key. Follow the instructions provided in the upper left corner of the screen to
complete the calibration.
3 When the teach calibration is complete, use the edge detector probe to measure a few edges to verify
that the teach calibration was successful.
Edge calibrations for difficult measurements
The distance calibration is performed to teach the edge detector probe to accurately measure thick or round
parts, or parts that are difficult to measure due to indistinct or fuzzy edges. It is not necessary to perform
a distance calibration when measuring parts with distinct, well defined edges.
NOTE
The standard used for distance calibration should either be a “gold standard” part
identical to the part that will be measured, or a standard with physical characteristics
that are very similar to the part that will be measured.
To perform the distance calibration:
1 Enter the dimension that will be used for the distance calibration into the
Artifact Size data field.
