Micro-PWC OPERATOR’S MANUAL

Micro-PWC Features 21

3.0 Micro-PWC Features

3.1 Introduction

The Micro-PWC console contains features which aid in the use and management of the system. These
features include activities such as:

Logging in

Logging out

Changing passwords

Opening and arranging windows

Accessing utilities

Accessing the System Status Display

Printing Logs and CRT screen contents

This chapter provides basic information required to get started using the system, then moves on to briefly
discuss various system features. Note that this manual does not attempt to describe configuration opera-
tions; refer to the Micro-PWC Configuration Guide for details on configuration.

Many of these system features are accessed using the menus available via the System Window Menu but-
ton. (The System Window is described in

Section 2.4.1, System Window

.)

3.2 Getting Started

One of two states can exist on a Micro-PWC that is running:

the System Default state (no user logged in)

the User Logged In state

3.2.1 System Default State

The System Default state occurs after a Micro-PWC initial start up, after a user has logged out of a Micro-
PWC, or when a Micro-PWC is restarted. In the System Default state:

security access level, Quick Keys, and CRT Context Keys are those defined in the Default
user login setup

the user name in the title bar of the Mini-Alarm Window is Default

the displays contained in the Operator Windows are those defined in the initial login displays of
the Default login setup. If no initial login displays are defined for the default login, a single
Operator Window is opened, which contains the System Status Display.

When the System Default state exists, the system responds as though a user named Default is logged in
on the system. Depending on the security level assigned to this Default user, various activities can be per-
formed on the system, such as opening Operator Windows, viewing displays, or printing the contents of
the CRT.

If the capuser account (with default permissions set) is logged in, a full shutdown of the Micro-PWC is not
permitted. This is because capuser is the default operator account and full shutdown privileges are with-
held. If necessary a user with administrative privileges can perform full system shutdown by selecting:
Micro-PWC Maintenance > Basic > Full System Shutdown.
