INSTALLATION
WIRING GUIDELINES
The power wiring connections and input/output (I/O) connections are made
with the controller installed in its operating location and with the power off.
The rear view of the controller housing in Figure 2 shows the terminals
available for inputs and outputs (rear cover removed).
CAUTION
Do not connect any wires to terminals 36, 37, 38, 39,
and 40. Connections to these terminals can cause an
instrument malfunction.
The recommended wiring procedure is as follows:
1.
The power wire size must be from 14 AWG (1.6 mm) to
18 AWG (1.0 mm) with a 600V, -20°C +105°C UL, CSA approved
rating. The signal wire size can be as small as 22 AWG (0.65 mm).
2.
Route signal wiring less than 30 V rms, 42.4 V peak or 60 V dc from
top left. Route signal wiring greater than 30 V rms, 42.4 V peak or 60
V dc from bottom right. Distribute to appropriate terminals.
3.
Use a small, flat-head screwdriver to loosen appropriate connection
screws and clamps on terminal blocks.
4.
Strip approximately 5/16 inch (8 mm) of insulation from end of each
wire, insert wires at assigned terminals, and secure terminal screws
and clamps.
5.
MODCELL 2050R controllers require a cold junction compensat
ing
thermistor for thermocouple
inputs. If a thermocouple input is planned,
contact the factory and purchase one 500P1269 t
hermistor
for each
planned thermocouple input. Install the thermistor across terminals 12
and 13 for the process input (5 and 6 for the second input option).
6.
Connect green ground wire to panel ground to dampen out noise
spikes on the ac line.
7.
After all connections are completed and checked, proceed to Setup.
NOTE:
Input 2, Output 2, and RS-485 Communications require that the
option card be installed. See MODBUS Communications
Supplement IB-23C650M for RS-485 connection information.
