Workstation and CE Batch Portable Database
Communication

The workstation application is the IntelliTrack application on your PC; it is
used to monitor inventory levels, input system options, input main system
data, and run usage reports. The front-end workstation application must be
run locally from each PC that is using it; the back-end database may be run
locally or from a remote server PC.

The CE Batch Portable application resides on the batch portable device.
With the batch portable application, you are able to perform supported
application functions and collect application data remotely with a batch
portable device. The CE Batch Portable application uses a SQL CE data-
base that communicates directly with the central SQL server database in
the workstation application.

The CE Batch Portable application must be run locally from each batch
portable device that is using it. During CE Batch Portable application
installation, the application files are transferred and installed on the CE
batch portable device.

CE Batch Setup and CE Batch Installation involve Remote Data Access
(RDA) setup on your PC, Batch Synchronization Utility setup on your PC,
and CE Batch portable application installation on your batch portable
device. Remote Data Access (RDA) setup and Batch Synchronization
setup must be completed PRIOR to CE batch installation on the portable
device.

Important:You must be able to perform a data sync between the PC and
handheld device in order to transfer IntelliTrack workstation application
and CE Batch Portable application data. Before you install the CE Batch
Portable application on the handheld device, a partnership between the
PC and the handheld device must be established. If you are using the Win-
dows Vista operating system, communication is established by the Win-
dows Mobile Device Center for Vista software. If you are using the
Windows XP operating system, you must have Microsoft ActiveSync
installed and configured for network communication on the PC where the
handheld device(s) will be connected. For more information about install-
ing the Batch Portable application, please refer to

“Installing the Batch

Portable Application on the Handheld Device” on page 264
