1.3.2 UPGRADE
The other option to a first time or from scratch install is to do an upgrade and have the install carry forward as
much of your existing configuration as possible. This means during the install process the user will need to provide
the details on where the existing configuration data files are located. The system will automatically gather this
information and apply it to the new configuration data. The user must be on version AAF or above to be
compatible with the new install feature set. Once the configuration data is processed then the install process
continues and allows the user to make whatever changes are necessary for the new install. For more details please

maintained for the HP Web ViewPoint product. Users are encouraged to access and register with this page.
Information relevant to Web ViewPoint, such as release history, FAQ’s, feature list, etc. is made available on this
site. A message board allows users to communicate with each other, and in an informal manner, with Web
ViewPoint’s development group. Evaluation copies of Web ViewPoint and its plug-ins are also available on this site.

1.4 PLUG-INS OVERVIEW
Web ViewPoint components are developed on top of a generic and flexible architecture. This allows for easy
development and integration of new components which are referred to as plug-ins. There by providing the user
the ability to add functional components to the Web ViewPoint menu. A Plug-in Developer’s Guide is available that
provides the technical details of how to extend the functionality of the product through value-added or special
purpose plug-ins. Note: There are some version dependencies between Web ViewPoint and the Plug-in, see the
particular release README file for specifics.
These may be developed by HP, third party vendors, or by customers themselves. To date, there are four plug-ins
offered by HP, and three by third party vendors which are briefly discussed below.
1.4.1 HP PLUG-INS FOR WEB VIEWPOINT
ASAP PLUG-IN:
This plug-in is suited for NonStop users who use HP’s ASAP software. ASAP’s Entity Definition Language (EDL)
allows its users to monitor not only state, but also availability of both system and application components over a
network of NonStop Servers. This plug-in provides the user with visibility of the ASAP views using the Web
ViewPoint User Interface. The main features of this plug-in are:
 Single view of state and availability throughout the network.
 Immediate historical look-backs for selected components.
 Integration within the Web ViewPoint platform
EVENT ANALYZER PLUG-IN:
The HP NonStop Event Analyzer is an optional plug-in component to Web ViewPoint used to analyze and track EMS
activity. The software allows a user to capture and summarize EMS data based on type, source and time period.
The user is provided with a fast and sophisticated browser-based GUI to manage, view and peruse the data. For
example a user can easily see what applications are generating the most events, what time period, what day of the
week and how long it takes for Action-Completions. The software provides various trending and historical analysis
views and reporting options. Events represent the heartbeat of any system and therefore the timely analysis and
management of events is critical. The Event Analyzer provides the user with a NonStop point of view and tools to
be proactive in the pursuit of maximum availability and achieving SLA goals. The Event Analyzer has the ability to
