Enabling wireless LANs (WLANs)

8. Use the Primary WLAN drop-down menu to select a WLAN from those WLANs sharing the same

BSSID. The selected WLAN is the primary WLAN for the specified BSSID.

9. Click Apply to save any changes to the Radio Settings and Advanced Settings screens.

Navigating away from the screen without clicking Apply results in changes to the screens being
lost.

10. Click Undo Changes (if necessary) to undo any changes made to the screen and its

sub-screens. Undo Changes reverts the settings to the last saved configuration.

11. Click Logout to securely exit the Access Point applet. A prompt displays confirming the logout

before the applet is closed.

Configuring bandwidth management settings

The Mobility 5181 Access Point can be configured to grant individual WLAN’s network bandwidth
priority levels. Use the Bandwidth Management screen to control the network bandwidth allotted to
individual WLANs. Define a weighted scheme as needed when WLAN traffic supporting a specific
network segment becomes critical. Bandwidth management is configured on a per-WLAN basis. A
separate tab has been created for each access point radio. With this new segregated radio
approach, bandwidth management can be configured uniquely for individual WLANs on different
access point radios.

1. Select Network Configuration -> Wireless -> Bandwidth Management from the Mobility 5181

Access Point menu tree.

2. Select either the Radio 1(802.11b/g) or Radio 2(802.11a) tab to display the WLANs enabled

for the selected radio and their existing configurations.

The WLANs displaying for the selected radio were assigned when the WLAN was created or
modified. A single WLAN can be assigned to either radio, and if necessary have different
bandwidth management configurations. To modify a WLAN-to-radio assignment, see

“Creating/editing individual WLANs”

on page 107.

3. Use the Bandwidth Share Mode drop-down menu to define the order enabled WLANs receive

Mobility 5181 Access Point services. Select one of the following three options:

4. Configure the Bandwidth Share for Each WLAN field to set a raw weight (for WLANs using the

Weighted Round-Robin option) for each WLAN. The weight% changes as the weight is entered.

If a WLAN has not been enabled from the Wireless screen, it is not configurable using the
Bandwidth Management screen. To enable a specific WLAN, see

“Enabling wireless LANs

(WLANs)”

on page 106.

First In First Out

WLANs receive services from the

Mobility 5181 Access Point

on a

first-come, first-served basis. This is the default setting.

Round-Robin

Each WLAN receives

Mobility 5181 Access Point

services in turn as

long the

Mobility 5181 Access Point

has data traffic to forward.

Weighted Round-Robin

If selected, a weighting (prioritization) scheme (configured within the QoS
Configuration screen) is used to define which WLANs receive

Mobility

5181 Access Point

resources first.
