Local Management

You establish a local management session with an AT-9400 Series switch
by connecting the RJ-45 to RS-232 management cable included with the
switch to a terminal or a PC with a terminal emulator program and to the
terminal port on the switch. The terminal port is located on the front panel
of the AT-9400 Series switch.

This type of management session is referred to as “local” because you
must be physically close to the switch, such as in the wiring closet where
the switch is located.

With a local management session you can manage the switch using the
command line or menus interface. The web browser interface is not
available during a local management session.

Here are the main points to a local management session of the switch:

ˆ

Starting a local management session on a master switch of an
enhanced stack allows you to easily transition to the other switches in
the same stack. For further information, refer to “Enhanced Stacking
Overview” on page 90.

ˆ

Starting a local management session on a slave switch, a switch with
an enhanced stacking status of unavailable, or a switch that is not part
of an enhanced stack gives you management access to just that
switch.

ˆ

A switch does not need a routing interface or an IP address to be
managed locally.

Note

For instructions on how to start a local management session, refer to
“Starting a Local Management Session” on page 46.
