Remote Telnet, Secure Shell, and Web Browser Management

You can remotely manage the switch from a management station on your
network using a Telnet or Secure Shell (SSH) client application or a web
browser. Remote Telnet and SSH management support the menus and
command line management interfaces while remote web browser
management supports the web browser management interface.

Here are the main points to remote management:

ˆ

Starting a remote Telnet, SSH, or web browser management session
on the master switch of an enhanced stack allows you to easily
transition to the other switches in the same stack. For further
information on enhanced stacking, refer to “Enhanced Stacking
Overview” on page 90.

ˆ

Starting a remote management session on a slave switch, a switch
with a stacking status of unavailable, or a switch that is not part of an
enhanced stack gives you management access to just that switch.

ˆ

The remote management workstation must reach the switch through
the subnet of the switch’s local interface. For background information,
refer to “Planning for Remote Management” on page 49.

ˆ

To establish an SSH management session, you must create an
encryption key pair on the switch and configure the SSH server. For
instructions, refer to Chapter 35, “Secure Shell (SSH)” on page 823.

Note

For instructions on how to start a Telnet or SSH remote
management session, refer to “Starting a Remote Telnet or SSH
Management Session” on page 52. Fo
r instructions on how to start a
remote web browser management software, refer to the AT-S63
Management Software Web Browser Interface User’s Guide
