Figure 4-49 PM on the LAG with master NID booting

In Figure 4-49, the slave NID detects that the master NID has failed. The slave NID therefore
becomes the master NID and begins testing at the next test address. It sends all its test packets
from its Network Port. If the current Master-slave NID is loading new FPGA software, the NID's
LAG link is down and all tests results are received over the (current) master NID’s LAG link. If
the (current) slave NID is rebooting without reconfiguring the FPGA, the LAG is still up. The test
results are likely be routed over the (current) slave's LAG link and will be lost.

4.6.15.4 LACP Failure Detection

Although the NID does not participate in the LAG protocol, with the LACP Failure Detection
feature, all LACP PDUs are actively monitored and the state of the LAG is determined. In case of
a LACP misconfiguration, the NID located on the passive link blocks all traffic to prevent
broadcast storms.

NOTE: When a link is in blocking state, only customer traffic is blocked. LACP PDUs are still for-
warded to attempt to reestablish the LAG. Management traffic and PM SOAM traffic destined to
the NID are not affected by the blocking state.
