4.6.15 Protected Link Performance Monitoring

NOTE: Read this section only if you are running PLPM on LAG.

Protected Link Performance Monitoring (PLPM) is a feature that allows two 9145E or 9145E10G

NIDs that are deployed on a protected link to be able to participate in PM, SAM and CPM testing.
PLPM is only available on high end 9145E or 9145E10G NIDs. The two devices are deployed on
links that belong to the same Link Aggregation Group (LAG).

The NIDs do not participate in any of the link aggregation protocols (such as LACP); link
aggregation protocol packets must pass through unaltered. The devices sit inline with the LAG
and generate and terminate PM/SAM traffic.

The main functionality is:

To allow CanogaView EMS to have knowledge of the 9145E or 9145E10G NIDs that are

performing PLPM functionality by being a PLPM Pair.

To ensure that the Performance Monitoring configuration for the NIDs that make up a

PLPM Pair remain in synchronization regardless of configuration changes that may occur
through the CanogaView Web interface.

To provide status monitoring capabilities of PLPM Pairs.

To detect suspected PM test results that may occur when the PLPM link between a PLPM

Pair is down and to filter those results when passing summary information to the system.

Once two NIDs have been identified as being a PLPM Pair, CanogaView EMS treats these NIDs
as being a single entity in terms of managing the PM configuration.
