5 – Troubleshooting and System Tests

The cut quality is poor, or
the cut does not sever the
metal.

• The consumables are

not functioning
correctly.

• There is a poor work

lead connection.

• The output from the

power supply is too
low.

• The power board is

producing low
current.

• The extension cord is

not delivering
sufficient power to the
power supply.

• The consumables are

worn or damaged.

• The work lead is

damaged or not
properly connected to
the workpiece.

• The amperage

adjustment knob is set
too low.

• The power board is

faulty.

• The extension cord is

too long, is damaged,
or is not capable of
delivering sufficient
power to the power
supply.

• Inspect the consumables and

replace if necessary.

• Inspect the work lead and

replace if necessary.

• Reposition the work lead on the

workpiece.

• Clean the workpiece surface to

make a better connection with
the work lead.

• If your input circuit allows, turn

the amperage adjustment knob
to a higher setting.

• Operate the system without

using an extension cord. If you
must use an extension cord,
use a heavy conductor cord of
the shortest possible length.

The pilot arc extinguishes
when you move the plasma
arc off the workpiece while
still pulling the torch
trigger.

• The continuous pilot

arc is not functioning

the control board is
