The uboat.iff image can be found in the

simple Ramp. The trick is to apply depth-cueing to the U-boat:
The first composite, without any fog, is not so stellar:
The second approach is to use Key–DepthKey (distance of 45) to pull a transparency
key. Not so good, as you get artifacts along the edges:
